ABOUT THE ROLE

Astro Lab Brewing is a micro-brewery with a retail taproom located in the heart of the Metro DC area.  We opened 3.5 years ago and have quickly become synonymous with fresh, high quality, innovative hop-forward beers.

 

There is a passion for craft in everything that we do and we are committed to being local, inclusive and an integral part of our neighborhood. Through outstanding service, attention to detail and focus on providing great beer, our taproom has become a community hub and we have ambitious goals for 2022 to increase customer count and make it a sought out destination for beer drinkers located throughout the DMV and Mid-Atlantic region.

 

Astro Lab Brewing seeks bartenders that are passionate about craft beer and want to join us in meeting these goals. These individuals will play a key role in developing an outstanding service culture and translate our values into a real experience.

JOB TASKS

  • Serve Astro Lab Brewing’s beer and food in a fashion that communicates the brewery’s passion for quality, education, and customer service. This could be in our taproom or externally at Beer Festivals.

  • Have an appreciation for and understanding of craft beer and the craft beer industry. 

  • Explain Astro Lab Brewing’s brand in an accessible, engaging way to guests both familiar with and new to the brewery.

  • Provide pints, samples, flights and ‘to-go’ beers for consumption on and off premises. 

  • Conduct retail merchandise transactions and restock retail areas as required..

  • Ensure consistency with quality service of our beer, including tap line cleaning and collecting, cleaning, and restocking of glassware.  

  • Ensure cleanliness of all bar surfaces, tables, floors, restrooms, and all other Tap Room areas.

  • Monitor and managing guests’ consumption of alcohol and sobriety levels to ensure adherence and compliance with regard to all applicable liquor laws while on the job.

  • Check IDs for all guests to ensure that alcohol service is only provided to those over 21yrs.

  • Maintain standards for food service presentation and food handling to ensure safety practices are being followed.

  • Control inventory and financials by properly using Toast POS software

  • Handle cash and credit card transactions in a responsible and accurate fashion at all times.

  • Open and close the Tasting Room by following written procedures and checklists.

  • Guide engaging tours of the brewery sharing Astro Lab Brewing’s story, providing details of the brewing process and ensuring guest safety.

  • Complete an annual training course on responsible alcohol service.

  • Participate in and complete job related training provided by or organized by brewery leadership.

  • Report any issues, concerns, or pertinent items to Manager on Duty

  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

 

REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Has a strong passion for and a keen sense of the craft beer industry, its fan culture and their expectations. 

  • Has an outgoing personality and loves engaging people about beer and all things craft.

  • Has a minimum of 2 years experience in the the craft beer industry, bars or restaurants. 

  • Understands that table service is just as important as serving from behind the bar.

  • Works well alone and as part of a team.

  • Is extremely organized, detail oriented,and doesn’t lose their cool under pressure. 

  • Possesses excellent communication skills, is fair, honest, and hard-working

  • Retail point of sales system knowledge and experience highly recommended

  • Knowledge of safe work operations, safety policies and procedures including sanitary handling of beverages, food and potentially hazardous chemical and materials

  • Willingness to work holidays, nights and weekends as a regular work schedule.

  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment.

  • Able to lift and carry 50 pounds and may be required to move 170 pound kegs.

  • Able to work in a standing position for long periods, crouch, bend, lift, and reach.

  • Alcohol Awareness Certified within 60 days of hire.

  • Cicerone Certified Beer Server® required within 90 days of hire.

COMPENSATION

Minimum Tipped Wage + tips.
