FULL TIME BREWER
Astro Lab Brewing is looking for a Brewer to join the team.
Astro Lab Brewing operates a 15-barrel brewhouse and taproom in the heart of downtown Silver Spring, a diverse and dynamic city just minutes from Washington, DC. The Lab is known for its unique and hop-forward beers and strives to push the envelope on flavor, style, and technique. The Brewer is in charge of the beer from raw ingredients to finished, packaged product. This full-time hire will join the co-founder and Head Brewer in his mission to create exceptional, experimental beer. The Brewer must meticulously follow all established SOPs and be able to see the big picture. We are looking for a critical thinker who is both creative and disciplined. This position works closely with the Head Brewer and Astro Lab team to ensure daily tasks and long-term projects are completed.
Brewing, racking, packaging (kegging, canning, and bottling), CIP, cellar work, basic lab functions, washing kegs, cleaning, scrubbing, record taking, carrying and lifting heavy objects.
The ability to:
Brew beer from collaborative recipe development to wort production to finished product
Work independently and as part of a team
Complete tasks in a timely manner and prioritize critical assignments
Multitask while maintaining attention to detail
Think critically and creatively
Share knowledge of craft beer, including knowledge of styles, hops, water chemistry, and yeast
Work safely and efficiently with heavy equipment, hot liquids, hazardous chemicals in an environment with moderate to loud noise.
Work 8-10 hour shifts, with weekend and early morning availability, and occasional overtime per production needs
Obtain a valid state-issued driver’s license
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
A Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant work experience (or equivalent). Master’s in Brewing or related-discipline is a plus but not required. Experience working on a canning line is also a plus but not required. Genuine appreciation of meat pies and rugby, also a plus but not required.
NECESSARY LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:
Other certifications through programs such as Siebel or Cicerone are a plus.
